Scotch 80’s

If you’re one of the lucky residents to live in the Scotch 80’s neighborhood in Las Vegas, with its diverse homes and its tight-knit community, you’ll likely end up staying quite a while. Built in the early 1950s when the city achieved worldwide recognition for being the top entertainment capital of the world, this section of town was inhabited by the individuals who made Las Vegas what it is today. The area, consisiting of single-family, mostly half-acre properties, it was home to business tycoons and entertainers like Howard Hughes, Steve Wynn, and Jerry Lewis, as well as a number of figures from Las Vegas’ infamous underground. The appeal of the Scotch 80’s is not only in its iconic history, but its friendly small-town feel. People go outside to talk with their neighbors, not only to walk their dogs, and to experience the diversity of the homes and the community they enjoy. With wide tree-lined streets surrounding ranch-style family homes and custom-built properties, the Scotch 80’s neighborhood association describes it as “a time capsule between retro 50s and Southwest modern.” Another strong appeal is the area’s costs compared to more pricier neighborhoods like Summerlin. Close to the I-15 highway and the Strip, and the convenient proximity to downtown coupled with an enviable neighborhood lifestyle, Scotch 80’s is one of the more sought-after locations to settle down in Las Vegas.
